Description
In 1909, the Fort Myers Press reported General Haldeman, Walter Haldeman’s son, would pay one-third of the cost of a hard road from Naples to Fort Myers, but there were no offers to fund the other two-thirds. The Naples-Fort Myers Transportation Company attempted to operate a bus route during the winter of 1914, but the buses were frequently mired in the sand and mud on the one-lane road.
