Description

Shortly after 3 p.m. on January 7, 1927, the Seaboard Airline Railway’s Orange Blossom Special, the pride of the line, steamed into the Naples Depot.  According to the Collier County News, “Hundreds of gaily decorated cars lined the streets and railroad yards.”  The five-section train, which had left Pennsylvania Station in New York the evening before, stopped several times to pick up dignitaries and by the time it arrived in Naples it carried 580 VIPs, including the Seaboard President S. Davies Warfield and Florida governor John W. Martin.  Also onboard were the Royal Scots Highlander and Czechoslovakian national bands, which played at the depot and later at a special late buffet luncheon held at the Naples Hotel.
